An Explorer’s Guide, our book introduces residents and visitors to the wonders of the Yamhill River Watershed with an emphasis on the Natural World. The core of the book includes eight guided day-trips that lead the traveler from point to point.

 Kaleidoscope IS NOW AVAILABLE
FOR SALE ($25, includes postage.)

All day-trips begin with a visit to a huge, flat argillite boulder that started its journey in Montana and ended up in the middle of the Yamhill River Watershed (northern Willamette Valley of Western Oregon). The Glacial Erratic Rock State Park sits on a hill above Hwy 18 (Salmon River Hwy), approximately 3-½ miles west of McMinnville and 4-½ miles from Sheridan.

The routes we have chosen include historic points of interest, walks and hikes, bike routes, water access, and picnic and camping spots. Every trip leads to several kid-friendly areas of natural wonders.

Our guided trips fan out from the Glacial Erratic Rock State Park. Each section is featured during a specific time of the year. We have designed the Kaleidoscope trips to avoid the high mountains in deep winter and lowland roads during spring floods. Of course, you are welcome to choose a trip in any direction regardless of the season.

A Word From Wendy:
I grew up in McMinnville with Cozine Creek running through our valley. We had no telephone or TV, and our little house had bookshelves on every wall. We spent a lot of time outdoors, down in the valley knee deep in the creek, catching whatever we could find. Some of my first handiwork was making snails and critters from the blue clay mud in the creek banks.

Things have definitely changed since I was a child, but the woods and quiet places are still here. Our intention through Kaleidoscope is to introduce you to those same treasures. When you find them, please learn to cherish and protect them, saving the beauty for all others who will follow our example.
